TUNE was established in 1973 as part of the State of Iowa Community Betterment Program. The goal was to coordinate the ideas, actions, and talents of the many people belonging to Northwood's various service organizations and groups. "Tree Planting Day" was TUNE's first community wide project--planting 300 shade trees. Other early projects included the formation of "Meals on Wheels", the riverbank clean-up, development of the mini-park, and fundraising for the swimming pool, 4th of July fireworks, and the first volunteer fire department rescue unit. TUNE disbanded in the mid 1980's but continued the fireworks fundraising annually. In 2003, TUNE was reorganized. The newly elected board members succeeded in achieving a 501(c)3 (non-profit) status. The mission of TUNE continues to be the community betterment of Northwood. Our focus is three-fold--development and revitalization of downtown, promotion of Northwood, and ongoing fundraising to accomplish these goals. |

EVERYONE WELCOME TO ATTEND: "FOCUS ON THE FUTURE--Part 2" NORTHWOOD~~ 2008 Action Planning Session 6 pm Thursday, May 22nd West Elementary Auditorium This follow-up meeting will help us harness the momentum and keep the vision moving forward. David Beurle will facilitate the meeting, helping develop and focus the action groups. We will be playing a very exciting futures simulation game. INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER ~~AUSTRALIA NATIVE~~DAVID BEURLE David Beurle, an internationally-famous community and economic development expert from Australia, will facilitate the evening program. Founder and managing director of Innovative Leadership Australia, David Beurle's passion is people and agriculture. Over the past decade he has devoted himself to working with rural communities in Australia and the USA to help them use their own creativity, assets and energy to build strong vibrant and prosperous futures. His work has been recognized internationally and has won many awards. |
